I just had to come tell you all what i just saw. 90 Day Fiancé is a show based on American Citizens who are single and found love in other parts of the world. The show focuses on these six couple’s and the lives of them with the addition of family values and cultural norms. Last season, there was this couple who were faced with a lot of distractions from both of their families. To make a long story short, apparently, according to his family, who is from the Dominican Republic, its normal to serve chicken feet as a welcome to their land. The girl and her family thought it was disrespectful because in the past his family called her family ‘Stupid Americans” so they put two and two together and thought they would be stupid enough to eat the chicken feet. Now sis, in my African- American culture much like how the girl and her family are, when we welcome someone to the family or get introduced to a partner we either go out to a nice dinner or we cook a whole meal, or even a barbecue with a nice spread of food and if the person happens to be vegan or whatever the case maybe, we switch it up. To make matters worse, his family did not even eat the chicken feet.
Sexual Harassment has slowly been impacting our world. With the #MeToo movement or #Time’sUp movement, it is starting to be more accepted. Women and men have a safe place to finally speak up and tell their stories. The big Bill Cosby scandal started up the engines and then the Harvey Weinstein’s Allegations made the big roar. The turning point came at the end of 2014, after a fellow comedian’s (Bill Cosby) remark went viral and dozens of women came forward with claims, some dating back nearly 50 years. (ABCNews). This just in! Ryan Seacrest was just trending because of accusations of sexual harassment and you know he still got to be on the red carpet at the Oscars?! A lot of women avoided him though. This movement is not just for men and women but to also let offenders and the world know that Time is up.
Black Panther caused raved reviews with its all African American cast. The movie itself raised 700 million in the first week of being shown. Tickets were going fast with multiple movie theatres having lines around the corner, just to find out that the movie was sold out. With this being Marvel’s biggest grossing film, it’s a fact that this film makes the top five or even top three. Created by the world class renowned Stan Lee in 1966. The character’s people loved are Michael B. Jordan, Chadwick Boseman, and Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, and Forest Whitaker. Black Panther is a movie about black empowerment in which the only redeemed blacks are African nobles. Representation is what made this movie, pop. It is also bringing in millions each week with audience members attending more than once. This movie could be bigger than Avatar.
The Critically Acclaimed movie, Get out, was a cultural phenomenon and it looks like the Oscars were here for it too. Creator Jordan Peele won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay Sunday night, and everyone was elated. His Partner in Crime, Keegan Michael Key, was the most anticipated and he among other celebrities. Peele then went onto twitter and tweeted ” I just won an Oscar. WTF?!?”. Not only did that moment make us proud but he was actually the first African American to win that award. To be honest, I did not expect him to win only because not many of those awards go out to minorities so it was a proud moment too see. He even beated out strong competition from Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water and Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird. Congratulations!
What’s up guys! I’m back and of course better than ever. Of course my name is Cece and welcome to my corner where it gets lit. Jumping right into some current events, is Beyonce’ going back on tour with hubby Jay-Z? So one night I was scrolling through the gram or Instagram as some would call it and you know I have my notifications every time Beyonce’ posts. So when she posted tour dates and took them down like 10 seconds later, I was a bit shook. Not only could it just be her but Allegedly, I say allegedly because I don’t want Mrs. Carter coming after me, it could be a possible part two to the “On the Run” tour with Jay-Z. The pair last toured jointly with “On The Run” in 2014. Now Jay-Z released the 4:44 album last year and Bey has not released an album yet…so could it be the anticipated album we have been expecting or a joint album? Let me stop though, but that’s all for now, see you when i see you!
Hey guys! Back at it again with another update and this may be the last time you hear from me. SIKE! Unfortunately, it’s the last post for my class, but that don’t mean i’m going to stop spreading my personality across WordPress. Alright, so first thing, this isn’t a copy of my last post, this time i’m talking about my final project of the semester. The story i decided to do was a commentary piece on Kendall Jenner’s Pepsi commercial. The commercial just wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I’m sorry but she should have not taken on this job. She lost a few fans in minorities. Including African Americans. I’m not going to go all in for how #blacklivesmatter. At Least, not right now. The one thing i’m trying to find is why she did the commercial, knowing all the controversies out there. For now, here’s a little more background from the commercial. This will be the introduction to my commentary piece for prior knowledge to the reader:
Hey guys back at it again with an update! This blog was on my exploration of NEWSY.com. I would like to say that i love the blue because if you haven’t noticed that’s what most social media website colors are. The website also included tons of videos, drop down menus, ways to follow the website on other social medias, and it does a good job of letting us know what the latest tea in the world is. I would actually go to this website to catch up on the news and use it for research. One of the three videos i watched was the one about April Fool’s day and how it came to be a national holiday. Might i add i learned a lot from just that one minute filled clip. It has other videos that anyone will take an interest too. Overall, my experience with the website was pretty good. Until next time !
