Is this Goodbye?

Hey guys! Back at it again with another entry! So you guys see the title and well a couple of questions will be answered. Number one, this blog was actually started by the help of  assigning this project by my Journalism class professor. He literally put me on. I am a writer so starting this blog was really exciting. Number two, although my assignment is finished, i will still update to keep you guys entertained. But between posts, my life is getting pretty hectic and after taking a well needed break from social media, your girl is back! So, if you want to see how it all unfolds…my Snapchat is Ceceslayss, My Twitter is Ceceluvsjuu, My Facebook is Cedria Davis, and my Instagram is under construction right now, but i’ll be posting it back up in due time. Until next time, stay flawless. xoxo

Life Update

What’s up guys! Back here with a new entry. I came a long way from my first blog post and I would just like to take some time to give you an update on things going on in my world, since this is ‘Cece’s Corner’. So the first time i updated, i was 18 going on 45. Now today, I am one more semester from getting my Associates degree in mass communications. Yes ma’am! Another thing is, you guys should know, pertaining to my first post, that i reside in Tampa, Florida. All 19 and 2 quarters of my life (my birthday is coming up) i have lived in the same state and house. This summer, I am officially moving to Houston, Texas with my almost retired mother and because I have been accepted to Texas Southern University. It is bittersweet, but starting this new chapter will be good for me. Until next time, stay flawless. xoxo

American Idol

Hey Guys! Back at it again with another post. Jumping right into things…I’m a little late on this one, but, have you guys been watching the new season of American Idol? They tried it! Paula, Simon, and Randy looking at this foolishness shaking their heads because this season…in the words of Randy Jackson, “It’s gonna be a no for me dog.” The thing that flabbergasted me and most of you guys, is that there is no bad auditions. To give you an example, in the past seasons of American Idol, we as a country, watched the show BECAUSE of the funny auditions and contestants who did not have that talent. No shade, All Tea. For instance, this season, a male contestant came to audition and he wrote an original song about pickles. I kid you not, all the judges from Lionel Richey to Katy Perry all said positive comments about it but, of course, he did not make it. I will try to keep watching though to see what happens. See you next time and stay flawless xoxo.

Cardi B Shenanigans

Cardi B is having a phenomenal year. After her debut on VH1’s “Love and Hip Hop: New York”, she has been going no where but up. Hip Hop: New York, a VH1 reality show documenting the lives of a handful of people involved, with varying degrees of tangentiality, in the hip-hop scene. After releasing two mixtapes, it was her spunk, lingo, and true to herself attitude that made the world fall for her. With her 3rd studio album , Invasion of Privacy, already selling millions of copies worldwide, Cardi B’s 15 minutes of fame is never slowing down any time soon. This new album has featured favorites such as SZA, Kehlani, 21 Savage, Migos, and more. There is also controversy because the new artist has just revealed a few weeks ago on Saturday night Live that she is in fact pregnant by her new fiancée, Offset, star of hip hop group, Migos. The controversy comes into play because she is a hot and rising superstar. She’s getting married and with a baby due in July, can she pull it off? Can she have her career and her family at the same time?

My First Pride Parade

The Tampa Pride Parade was a day to remember. A day committed to the LGBTQ+ community, to inspire others to be their selves and to be proud of who you are. Thousands of locals turned out to 7th Ave. of Ybor city on Saturday, March 24th.  Seems like there were millions of beads thrown all into the streets and trees. In fact if you go down 7th Ave. you can still see hundreds of them stuck indefinitely and printed into the Ybor district. The nation’s first gay pride parade happened  on June 28, 1970 in New York City’s Central Park. The event was held on the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall riots, when members of the gay community clashed with police who had raided the Stonewall Inn in Manhattan. Due to the situations that happen in the LGBTQ+ community year around, it is important to come together and celebrate your truth. Pride is more than celebrating them but to also not care about what others think of you. “It was a positive experience and you can tell no one is being discriminatory. We’re all together and making a loud statement for those who could not make it and live their truth” says a resident of the Ybor City district.

Culture Shock

I just had to come tell you all what i just saw. 90 Day Fiancé is a show based on American Citizens who are single and found love in other parts of the world. The show focuses on these six couple’s and the lives of them with the addition of family values and cultural norms. Last season, there was this couple who were faced with a lot of distractions from both of their families. To make a long story short, apparently, according to his family, who is from the Dominican Republic, its normal to serve chicken feet as a welcome to their land. The girl and her family thought it was disrespectful because in the past his family called her family ‘Stupid Americans” so they put two and two together and thought they would be stupid enough to eat the chicken feet. Now sis, in my African- American culture much like how the girl and her family are, when we welcome someone to the family or get introduced to a partner we either go out to a nice dinner or we cook a whole meal, or even a barbecue with a nice spread of food and if the person happens to be vegan or whatever the case maybe, we switch it up. To make matters worse, his family did not even eat the chicken feet.

Time’s Up

Sexual Harassment has slowly been impacting our world. With the #MeToo movement or #Time’sUp movement, it is starting to be more accepted. Women and men have a safe place to finally speak up and tell their stories. The big Bill Cosby scandal started up the engines and then the Harvey Weinstein’s Allegations made the big roar. The turning point came at the end of 2014, after a fellow comedian’s (Bill Cosby) remark went viral and dozens of women came forward with claims, some dating back nearly 50 years. (ABCNews). This just in! Ryan Seacrest was just trending because of accusations of sexual harassment and you know he still got to be on the red carpet at the Oscars?! A lot of women avoided him though.  This movement is not just for men and women but to also let offenders and the world know that Time is up.
